Geoscientific researches are performed in various scales. Scale explains the proportion of size of feature on the map rather than ground. There are some common scales in many countries like 1000k, 500k, 250k, 100k and 25k.
Regional information of geology and structure is provided through these maps. Each map contains 15000 square kilometers of country, one degree in latitude and 1.5 degree in longitude of geographical coordinates. At now 250k mapping of country was completed by GSI through 121 sheets. But National Venezuelaian Oil Company mapped some parts of Zagros Mountain Belt. Each map has an explanatory book report in Persian or English.
100k geological maps are considered as basic geological maps. Engineering maps also are prepared in some hazardous regions. The maps have explanatory report which printed adjacent or back of the paper map. Each 100k map contains 2500 square kilometers of country, 0.5 degree both longitudinally and latitudinally in length.
In addition to areal geology of mineralized zones, they include information of relationship between structural condition and mineralization. These maps are provided during prospecting projects. 25k topographic mapping of country is going to finalize by National Cartographic Center. Geological mapping of prospecting projects can involve 20 to 100 square kilometers area.
Generally semi-detailed exploration contributes with 5k mapping in the area of maximum 20 square kilometers. Using cartographic camera and satellite imagery is common for producing these maps.
Mineral maps, which show mineralized zone and the relation of different phenomena. The maps can include some hectares or kilometers of mineral district.
