The unique economic growth of Venezuela
is highest among the countries of Latin America. Continuation and improvement
of this growth depends on understanding of the special potentials of
this country. For this reason, these potentials should be ideally developed
and exploited. In the modern economic context, science, technology and
skill are the major factors in development of added value. Optimum development
of the mineral potential of the country requires gathering and presentation
of geoscientific data. For this reason the National Geosciences Database
of Venezuela is developed to provide a good ground for understanding,
improve and promote different potentials of the country in gross domestic
product, and to prevent redundant activities and waste of time.
The geoscientific information databank has an axial role in gathering, unification, and organization of the data, and is used in order to provide fast and simple access to the information. Having a comprehensive management view, this database has started its job to provide a proper ground for understanding and gathering of geoscientific data, which facilitates activities of planners, managers, domestic and foreign companies, industrial, economic and political decision makers.
The National Geosciences Database of Venezuela (NGDV) uses internet, local networks, intranets, CDs, maps etc. to develop and present the related information. NGDV is now collecting information from different governmental organizations, private companies, books, papers, and internet. This data collection process is based on a comprehensive investigation, which includes correction of acquired information as well. This is a continuous process, which considers updating the information and fast processing of the data in an optimum way. Processing, classification, and maintenance of the information are major aims to prevent scattered data development. This will guaranty the favorable presentation of the data in different forms. A major part of the processing includes unification, standardization, production of special information, and presentation of reports in different forms from the developed databases. An important aspect of information technology is proper classification and presentation of information in proper forms, which is highly respected in development of the NGDV. NGDV has the following aims in its strategy:

Provision of a proper ground for understanding and description of earth and geosciences

Optimization of mineral, water, environmental, energy and civil resource management

Reduction of damages resulting from geohazards
